Urban poor

For development to be inclusive and transformative, the poor must not only benefit from programs—they must understand and assert their rights. Our Rights Awareness for Integrated Development program is a platform for empowering Nigeria’s poor with knowledge and  collective voice.

Across Nigeria’s poorest communities, we are facilitating dialogues, group formations, and participatory learning workshops that address civic rights, healthcare, education access, financial inclusion, and gender equity. We believe rights-based development ensures that interventions are not merely charity, but tools for justice and long-term change.

Our awareness sessions cover topics such as access to primary health care, social protection schemes, legal identity, local governance participation, and the right to basic services. Mini-irrigation schemes, women’s credit circles, and school support clubs are built into the outreach model to ensure that education is immediately linked to action and livelihood.

The program also encourages group formation—self-help groups, savings cooperatives, and local advocacy units—so communities can take ownership of their development. Informed citizens are empowered citizens. We have seen firsthand how knowledge of rights has helped communities demand clean water, school improvements, and access to health centres.

Through awareness and collective action, we aim to dismantle the barriers that keep poverty entrenched. True development must begin with the power to know and claim one’s place in society.
