Gbonse Foundation offers microcredit, financial education to women

Gbonse Foundation for Economic Development has initiated small loans and financial education to empower women as they play crucial roles in families.

At a community outreach held in the Igando area of Lagos on October 25, chairperson and chief executive officer of the foundation, Helen Olaniyan, said the organisation provides microloans to women traders and small business owners, as well as offering training on money management and entrepreneurship.

“We understand that it is not easy for market women and small business owners who struggle every day to buy goods, make a little profit, pay rent, and still take care of their families. That is why we are here: to let them know that help is available. Through our small loans and training programmes, we support hardworking women to grow their businesses and improve their lives,” she said.

Mrs. Olaniyan urged women entrepreneurs and traders to take advantage of the foundation’s programmes, assuring them that no collateral was required to access loans, but only commitment and readiness to repay gradually.

“Women are at the heart of local economies. When we support women, we are also supporting families, children’s education, and healthier communities. Research shows that women reinvest up to 90 per cent of their income in their families and communities. That is why we prioritise women because when women succeed, society succeeds,” she said.
